Orange Coast College broke ground in December of 2019 on the $50 million Language Arts and Social Science building. The 107,760-square foot facility is a part of a larger initiative to modernize the campus and accommodate its rapidly expanding enrollment. CSI created stair panels, roof details, floor framing, doors, and railings. A new skyway bridge will connect the new building to the existing Math, Business and Computing Center. The Language Arts and Social Science Building’s first floor houses labs, classrooms, an English as a Second Language (ESL) computer lab and room, facilities for the Speech, Debate and Theater Team and a journalism newsroom. The second floor is connected to the existing Mathematics Business and Computer Center Building, while the third floor will host faculty offices. The Language Arts and Social Science building will also feature two elevators, gender-neutral restrooms on every floor and a lactation room. C.W. Driver and tBP Architecture are the construction managers for this project, which is slated for completion in summer of 2021. CSI’s mandate included creating drawings, metal decking, supplying steel, ladders and counter brackets. We also fabricated and installed stainless steel stairs, rails and the bridge.
