Forklift Operator job summary
Operate powered industrial trucks to load and unload materials and deliveries and move them to and from storage areas, machines and loading docks, onto trucks or storage facilities.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Obtains copy of production schedule or shipping order and transports material or equipment to and from designated areas in the facility
- Loading and unloading steel material from vehicles such as trucks or trailers
- Moving steel beams around the facility
- Stacking steel beams in the correct storage bays, following inventory control instructions
- Checking loads are secure
- Performing daily equipment checks such as inspecting equipment
- Removing machine attachments and waste material from machines
- Examining products to verify conformance to quality standards
- Dumping materials into machine hoppers
Qualification requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Good math, language and reading skills; basic computer skills may be required
- High degree of attention required to prevent injury to others; promote a safe work environment
- Follow instructions for operating equipment and keeping records
- Execute assignments in an accurate, timely and safe manner
- Maintain a clean & safe environment

Job Description
PURPOSE:
The basic function of the Welder is to weld metal components together with a variety of arc and gas welding equipment to fabricate or repair products per client specifications on the job order at the same time being aware of your surroundings pertaining to safety.
EDUCATION:

EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of five (5) plus years in welding with two (2) years at journeyman level preferably in a steel fabrication industry working with heavy steel.
• Must have experience with heat treatment and pre-heating metal.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- The use of analytical and observational skills that demonstrate ability to organize, direct, and operate effectively in a steel fabrication shop.
• Must be familiar with the proper layout of steel for welding and the different properties of steel when welded and the type of weld to use.
• Must be able to read and comprehend blueprints correctly.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• To meet all fabricating, welding, and quality specifications.
• To check the gage pressure before using the torch.
• To make sure the right equipment is used for the job.
• To weld steel parts together using arc welding process.
• To perform related tasks such as oxy-acetylene, plasma cutting and grinding.
• To position and clamp together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
• To inspect the completed work for the following:
- To ensure it meets specifications,
- Chip off excess weld, slag, and splatter,
- Check for undercuts,
- Make sure the weld has proper penetration,
- Make sure the measurements are correct,
- Make sure the correct symbol is placed on the metal.
- Check to make sure all tools and equipment are in good and safe condition prior to using them.

This position also acts as the client relation’s person and handles all client complaints on production and quality related issues from assigned projects.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (List the essential functions of the position, i.e., what incumbent is required to do, not how it is done):
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
-Review design drawings and scope.
-Review project for purchasing issues and long lead times.
-Participate in weekly schedule meetings on all projects.
-Monitor progress of shop drawing submissions and production issuance.
-Process RFI's as needed. Follow-up on any RFI's not being answered in a timely manner.
-Check jobsite conditions for any foreseeable access/erection problems. Advise GC on any field conditions that might delay erection.
-Make sure any extra field work has been authorized with a signed field authorization worksheet from GC.
-Provide excellent customer service.
-Achieve Cost to Complete expectations of accuracy and timelines without exception.
-Maintain COR (Change Order Requests) -- CORs must be submitted to the customer within 5-10 days as per the contract requirements (PMs must review the contract to meet the days required), from the RFI (Request for Information) and/or CCD (Construction Change Document).
-On a weekly basis, follow-up that approved SCO (Subcontractor Change Order) is received by CSI from the customer, for billing purposes.
-Confirm that all data reconcile to the amounts that have been quoted.
-Forward the reconciled SCO to the Accounting Department for processing.
-Define project milestones and create production schedule (submittals to/from customers for review, fabrication start dates, start of erection dates, and any of the same items with sub-contractors).
Ensure the project budgets are being met by:
-Monitoring Shop Labor Hours and Costs.
-Monitoring Field Costs and hours.
-Sub-Contractors' Costs.
-Materials Costs.
-Ensure that each project does not exceed $50,000 of costs on unapproved work.
Any Variances "negatively" impacting the budget, corrective action must be delineated:
-Collaborate with Department heads and determine a corrective plan of action.
-Inform Manager.
-Communicate and Execute the corrective plan of action with all of the related parties.
-The Project Manager is responsible for the follow-through to ensure the corrective action is taking place.
-Walk the shop as needed. Be proactive on any job issues or opportunities or corrections that need to take place or done in a different manner to confirm quality and constructability.
-Ensure all dates are met as per the contract and/or customer requirements.
-Ensure zero back-charges (Jobs must be met on-budget, on-time and per customer specifications).
